Blackboard Connect

posted Sep 18, 2017, 9:30 AM by Malinda Silver

Blackboard Connect-ED / Connect 5 is our community outreach notification tool designed to aid in the distribution of important information. This well respected and widely used service will enable Clearmont Elementary and the Yancey County  School District to communicate with parents about emergency situations, school events and important issues impacting your child via personalized voice and/or text messages to your family's home, work or cell phones. Essentially, a school principal or district administrator can make one phone call that reaches families and/or employees in a short amount of time.

Need to hear a message again?

If you've missed a message, or you'd like to hear a message again, please call: 1-855-4Replay (1-855-473-7529) from the phone in which the original message was received.

Important Call Delivery Notes

  • Messages may not be immediately available for playback. It could take up to one hour for the message to become available.

  • If you've missed any part of the message while it is playing, please stay on the line and press * (star) to hear the message again.

  • Please be aware that this service cannot dial an extension, so work numbers with extensions cannot be called.

  • When a call comes from the school, your caller ID system will display the district name or phone number. However, this can also depend on the phone company carrier, or what you have entered into your personal phone contact list.

  • When listening to a message, please be aware that background noise will cause the system to "stop and start." In the event that your telephone line is busy at the time of the call, the system is programmed to call two additional times, usually within an hour of the call start time.

  • If there is no answer, the system will re-try that number several times. If after repeated attempts the message is still not delivered, the system will cease its delivery attempts.

  • To ensure proper message delivery, your answering machine message should be fluid without silent breaks or pauses.

  • Please help us by ensuring that we have your current contact information. If any of your phone numbers have changed during the school year please contact the  school so we can update our records.

PARENT LETTER Beginning-of-Grade 3 English Language Arts/Reading Test

Clearmont Elementary School

1175 Clearmont School Road

Burnsville, NC 28714

September 2017

Dear Parents and Families,

As part of the Read to Achieve law (G.S. §115C-83.1), your child was given the Beginning-of-Grade 3 English Language Arts/Reading Test to establish a baseline measure of how he or she is reading. An Individual Student Report (ISR) of your child’s test scores will be sent home to you. The test results will help you and your school address the learning needs of your child so that he or she will continue to progress in reading proficiency.

As you review your child’s score report, make notes about your child’s test scores and other questions you may have. Be sure to discuss your questions with your child’s teacher when you attend a parent-teacher-student conference. Please remember that test scores should always be considered along with all other available information provided about your child. Any standardized test score is just a single indicator of student performance and just one piece of the educational picture. Your child’s teacher can best describe your child’s performance on the test in addition to specific strengths and weaknesses observed throughout the school year.

If you have questions or concerns about this test or the Read to Achieve law requirements, please contact either myself or your child’s teacher.  We look forward to working for you and your child and helping him or her become a better reader by the end of third grade.

Sincerely,

Stuart Jolley

Air Quality

posted Nov 15, 2016, 7:09 AM by Malinda Silver

Due to the widespread fires in Western North Carolina and its impact on local air quality, we are monitoring the Air Quality Forecast frequently. School Administrators are reviewing this information and making decisions at each school with the safety and well-being of staff and students as their main goal.  We have not mandated any restriction on outdoor activity at this time but staff have been informed that if any student or parent has concerns about activity outside, we can and will offer an alternative activity as needed. If you would prefer your child be kept inside during school hours, please contact the school to notify them of this.
