AHERA NOTICE

TO: All Parents, Guardians and Employees of Yancey County Schools
        EPA regulation (40CFR762-84) requires that school systems notify parents, guardians and employees at least once each school year regarding asbestos activities.

        EPA regulation (40CFR763-85) requires that a visual inspection of all asbestos-containing Materials be completed every six months.  The purpose of this notice is to provide an annual AHERA Status Report.

Status Report
    
    1.     The Yancey County Board of Education completed its plan for control of asbestos containing materials in 1989.  Three year re-inspections have been conducted by Affinity Energy & Environmental Engineers, Inc. as required by EPA with the last inspection completed in March 2016.  Recommended repairs have been made or scheduled to be made.  The next re-inspection will be scheduled for 2019.

    2.    Six month re-inspections have been conducted by local personnel with the last being done in March 2017.  Next inspection will be completed in September 2017.

AHERA activities conducted during the past year are as follows:

    1.Bald Creek Elementary - August 2016 - Removed floor tile and mastic from one classroom.
